What the scores meanHow scores work
Score types
Points for a public sale signal, years in business, ownership type, an owner confirmed on the state record, an active-buyer category, saleable size, management depth and a delinquent state filing. Buyers, private equity backed companies and closing businesses keep 30 percent of their points. The points are then ranked across the whole territory.
Points for operating history, noted growth or expansion, founder or family ownership, a future succession need, multiple locations and management development. Closing businesses score zero. The points are then ranked across the whole territory.
A plain sum: property ownership, a lease or move noted, expansion activity, multiple locations, a facility dependent trade and a property need tied to an ownership change.
Sell Score ranges
- 80–100 · Strong near term seller — Top fifth of the territory on the Sell method.
- 60–79 · Promising, active outreach — Well ranked; worth an outreach effort now.
- 40–59 · Longer term nurture — Middle of the territory; keep in the nurture flow.
- 1–39 · Limited near term evidence — Few selling points recorded yet.
Sell and Grow scores rank each business against every other business in this territory. A score of 80 means the business ranks in the top fifth, not an 80 percent chance of a sale.
Every score carries a Basis line listing the points it earned. Points come from saved facts only, and all three scores are recalculated whenever records are added, removed or updated.
